Island Ride Test

Island Ride

Island ride is a motorcycle tour itinerary which will take you through the Islands of Mindoro, Panay and Negros over a period of 2 weeks.

First of all, the High Rolling Mountains, that separate Mindoro’s 2 provinces, offer a beautiful backdrop to this tropical paradise and a great way to start your journey. Diving, island hopping, deserted beaches and hikes during which you’ll be able to explore the areas populated by the local Mangyan tribes, are some of the things you will be able to do before heading over to Panay.

Most well known for being the jump-off point to get to Boracay, Panay is really a motorcycle riding haven. A stone’s throw away from the party capital of the Philippines, is the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park, with its twisting and coastal roads taking you to Pandan, an unbelievable paradise of deserted coastline, ideal to relax and indulge in the simple pleasures in life.

Also in Panay, Ilo Ilo was the last Spanish stronghold in Asia. Today, it is a city full of historical buildings, a good place to see and appreciate art and one more great place from which to enjoy yet more beautiful tropical nearby islands. In Negros, the adventure continues by riding through its rugged terrain only to be welcomed by un spoilt coastline, world class diving, some of the Philippines best culinary treats and a good dose of the Philippines’ glorious past.

Riding through Panay island

Panay island is our entry point to the Western Visayas Region in the Philippines.  Perhaps the first things that come to mind when thinking about Panay island are: Caticlan, the jump off point to get to Boracay, one of the Philippines most Popular tourist destinations, and Iloilo City, the capital city of the Spanish empire in Asia before it was ceded to the Unites States in 1898.

A number of roro ferries make Panay island accessible by road from the neighbouring islands and from Batangas, and as many other islands in the country do, it hides some very worthy riding treasures for any avid biker.

For anyone looking for something less crowded than the infamous Boracay, there is the Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park, which has a number of cozy beach-front lodging options in the Pandan area, not to mention a very enjoyable riding loop that can be completed in a few hours.

We usually get to Panay island on a roro from Bulalacao, as it allows us to enjoy the ride through Mindoro, and end the day at a solitary beach with beautiful sunsets over the Sulu Sea.  From Caticlan or Pandan, one can head towards Iloilo through the north and then head south, something we still need to explore, or alternatively, one can head down towards Antique, enjoying a fairly easy but beautiful coastal road before taking one of 2 very rewarding stretches of road in the island’s most southern tip.

On one hand there is the PC Barracks Rd (Antique – Iloilo Rd) with some very fun twisties (one of our favourite roads too!), and on the other, there is the road that will take you along the southern coast through Anini-y.

Either one of these roads, if not both, are something worth putting high up on any riders list when riding in the Philippines.

You can visit Panay with us when you book our Island Ride, Visayas Loop or Pan-Philippine Marathon, but do contact us if you’d like us to design a different itinerary for you.
